A Pearl in My Head

There was a grain, sharp and small, buried deep where no one saw.
I turned away, I let it grow, wrapped it soft in things I know.
Now it gleams, a silver weight, something formed but never fades.
I press my hands against my skin, but still, it stays. It lives within.
"Let it go," they hum, they sigh, but how do you release the sky?
The storm, the sea, the salt, the stingit’s part of me, it’s everything.
So I carry what I can't forget, not out of love, not out of debt.
Just a pearl where once was sand, just a ghost beneath my hands.
