Synopsis

"Doctor Sleep" is the continuation of Danny Torrance's story 40 years after the terrifying events of Stephen King's The Shining. Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the "shine." Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality. Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra's innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before-at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.

Review

“Doctor Sleep” is one of the most anticipated movie sequel from a book written by Stephen King. “Doctor Sleep” is the continuation of the legendary movie, “The Shining”.

While “The Shining” focused on more psychological-thriller approach, “Doctor Sleep” took a turn as a fantasy-thriller movie.

In this movie, we followed the story of Danny Torrance who had to face his past and help young Abra with the power he wanted to hide. The storyline is filled with flashbacks and deja-vu(s) from the events in the previous movie. A lot of iconic scenes and ghosts also appear in this movie.

The storyline is complex and interesting, completed by CGI that pictured the scene perfectly. We can see some character developments from Danny Torrance and others. Just as expected as the sequel to “The Shining”, “Doctor Sleep” gave enough scare with jumpscares between the scenes. But, despite the fact that it’s titled as a “horror” genre, the movie is leaning more towards the fantasy genre.

If you haven’t watch “The Shining”, the movie might seem a little confusing because it mentioned a lot about the past events.

Thoroughly, “Doctor Sleep” is a very unique fantasy-horror-thriller movie.
