We arrive in the classroom, where the ‘bright and bookish' kids are there ahead of us. This group is probably the most colorful group in the class, in terms of personality, interest, and (of course) style! They're bookish for sure, but all of them reads different kind of books. Don’t be fooled by their casual and colorful style, some of them acts nonchalant, active, or both of them combined in different ways.
“Hey Laurel, are we allowed to use paint for the art assignment?” Freya asks politely.
“Maybe, but I recommend color pencils. Just in case” Laurel is becoming more prepared since She hang out with Idie.
Near Freya, Zee and Carina are travelling across dreamworld (translation: sleeping), Ansel is reading web comic while Janie Lee screams constantly at Ansel to distract him from his comic, and the same thing happens to Felicia who can’t focus on her fantasy novel because of the constant dancing coming from Ella. On top of that, Diana is taking pictures of her new romance novel from every different angles possible, preventing her from actually reading it.
“Another heartbreaking story Dee?” I teasingly ask.
“No I think this one has cheerful vibes, but we will have to see for that!” Let’s hope Diana's optimism pays off with an ending that isn’t tragedy or dead love interest.
The ringing bell prevents Diana from actually opening her book, and the sleeper duo from getting deeper into dreamworld.
After a few minutes of morning school routine, the teacher asked me to grab some tools for the craftsmanship subject at the repairing lab. On my way to the lab, I witness the arrival of the biker kids with their overly modified bicycles (at least for me).
Helmets, jackets, knee pads, not panicking when they arrive late at school (except when a teacher bust them off), that’s how you notice someone as this school's biker group. Except a few of them actually arrive on time for school. Fred, Tyrone, Bernie, Rio, and Henry blame each other daily for their daily late arrivals, but don’t worry, they only do it for jokes and fun.
The four of them rush to the classroom, but not before Fred clenching his fist to me and I made a gun shoot impression to him, yeah that’s our weird chemistry. While they’re rushing, I can hear them mention ‘Tara' a few times. Huh, must be the class project.
I quickly continue my way to the repairing lab. There, I find the iconic rebellious inventors. Eric always moves around hysterically, sharing cheers for everyone. Except when he's ‘inventing’ a project, don’t expect him to move an inch. Aiden is the most eccentric by heart, you can never expect his ideas. When I ask about the tools, John try to aid me in finding the tools.
“Anyone seen the crafts tool? Cloud?” John is always the one assisting people at the lab, like a kind store owner.
“Hello, earth to Cloud!” When John screams, he’s not angry. Trust me, Cloud's music volume is always maximum, when you scream at him he probably wouldn’t hold grudges against it.
“What? Oh I don’t know dude, try checking the upper drawer?” Even though it took a shout for Cloud to answer, it’s worth it. John find the tools and handed it to me.
“Thanks John”
“Yeah it’s nothin', you sure everyone can use it?”
“It’s not free period, so the teacher is in class to show us how it’s done”
“Alright then, catch Ya later” See? You can always count on John.
“Hey leave a message for the party girls to throw a party for us the next time we help them with tool-related homework!” Eric joke about how he and the inventor guys helped Eudora and her friends when it comes to tool and craftsman related homeworks.
Eric's joke is followed by a series of teasing laughs from his friends.
I return to class with the tools, some old news and fresh ones. The fresh ones are probably the stories people told me. The old news is that the school still has the same trend, people and groups talk about each others' quirks. The world probably has the same trend until now. But that’s okay, sometimes people's comments pushes us to be a better version of ourselves, sometimes people doesn’t even mean to offend us.
People are always talking about other people. When you're a party person, the nerds would talk about you, and vice versa. When you're a biker kid, the band hippies would talk about you, and vice versa.
This is the proof that people cares for us, whether we consider it as good or bad. You can be stand-offish, sporty, nerdy, critical, joyful, bookish, adventurous, or creative, some people would still deem you as a weird one.
Everyone's weird in their own way. The popular guys sees the nerds as weirdos, but so do the nerds. Everyone's weird, but that's okay. Weird means unique, unique means iconic. You’re iconic no matter how you act, how you dress. Embrace that weirdness and stay weird.
